Culture With Lina (“we”, “us”, “the site”) operates www.culturewithlina.com. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit the site, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have any question about it, email contact@culturewithlina.com.
Who we are
Culture With Lina is an independent travel publication covering festivals, food, monuments and cultural traditions. The site is operated from Morocco and publishes in English. Our website address is https://www.culturewithlina.com and our contact address is contact@culturewithlina.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Email address — when you subscribe to the newsletter or download a free guide.
- Name, email and message — when you contact us.
- Billing and shipping details — name, address, email, phone and country, when you buy a guide or an item of merchandise.
- Account details — if you create a customer account, we store your username, email and order history.
- Comment data — if commenting is enabled on an article, we store the comment, your name, email, IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymised hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture; their policy is at automattic.com/privacy.
Information collected automatically
- IP address, approximate location (country or city level), browser type, device type and operating system.
- Pages you visit, how long you stay, and the site or search that referred you.
- Cookies and similar technologies, described below.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect card numbers. Payments are processed entirely by Stripe and PayPal, and we never see or store your full card details.
Advertising and Google AdSense
This site displays advertising. Advertising revenue is what keeps the guides on this site free to read.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- Google’s own privacy practices are described in the Google Privacy & Terms page covering how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before non-essential cookies, including advertising cookies, are set. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time through the consent notice on the site.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which articles people read and how they found the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address; IP anonymisation is enabled. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. We also use Google Search Console via Site Kit, which reports aggregated search data and does not identify individual visitors.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. This site uses:
- Strictly necessary cookies — to keep items in your shopping cart, keep you signed in to your account, and remember your language selection. The site cannot function without these.
- Analytics cookies — to measure traffic and article performance, as described above.
- Advertising cookies — set by Google and its partners to select and measure ads, as described above.
- Preference cookies — to remember guides you have saved and whether you have dismissed a notice.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will break the shop and your saved guides.
Payments and orders
Purchases are handled by WooCommerce. Payment is processed by Stripe or PayPal, depending on the method you choose. We receive confirmation of payment and the billing and delivery details needed to fulfil your order. We keep order records for as long as required by tax and accounting law.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address is stored by our newsletter provider so we can send you new guides and occasional offers. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address from the list.
Embedded content from other sites
Articles on this site may embed content such as videos, reels or image feeds from YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or Pinterest. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website. These providers may collect data about you, set cookies, embed additional tracking and monitor your interaction with that content, including if you have an account and are logged in to their service. We also use the Meta pixel in connection with our shop to measure the performance of advertising on Facebook and Instagram.
Translation
The site offers machine translation through GTranslate. If you select a language, that request is processed by the translation provider.
How long we keep your data
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe.
- Contact emails: up to two years, then deleted.
- Orders and invoices: as long as required by law, typically ten years.
- Comments and their metadata: indefinitely, so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically.
- Analytics data: according to the retention period configured in Google Analytics, currently fourteen months.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the site — our web host, payment processors, newsletter provider, analytics and advertising partners listed above — and where we are legally required to do so. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
International transfers
Some of the providers above are based outside your country, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, those providers rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how we use it, to withdraw consent at any time, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@culturewithlina.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or UK and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your national data protection authority.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and access to the administration area is restricted and password-protected. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be announced on this page.
